GPL’S Health and Safety Seminar welcomed its Subcontractors on 19^th October 2018. The aim of this years gathering was to highlight not only the individuals responsibilities for H&S, but for those working around them.

Colin wright MD of Britannia Health + Safety training Ltd delivered the seminar. He discussed topics such as Responsibilities of the Main Contractor, Sub-Contractors and their  Employees, Permits to Work, Sentencing Guidelines, HSE- Fees for Intervention and Mental Health. Colin also covered Equipment Inspections including a practical forklift session, Current Legislation, Asbestos Awareness, Training and Qualifications and GDPR. A practical session with the delegates was carried out where they completed a Risk Assessment and Method Statement.

In the afternoon the delegates completed Manual Handling Training.

Alongside the Health & Safety Seminar other  delegates were attending a PASMA / Mobile Tower Course, run by Britannia Safety Training LTD. This is a one day course split into a theory and practical session.

Peter Clift MD of GPL said ‘What a beneficial day we had all round. It was good to see so many of the younger lads showing such enthusiasm and knowledge’.

Harvey started his construction career with GPL Construction when he was sixteen, gaining experience both in the office and on site. His interest grew in the construction industry and as a result he decided to go to Wolverhampton University to study Construction Management, spending his 3^rd year out in industry with Carillion. After graduating with a 2:1 in Construction Management BSc (hons) Harvey joined R G Carter in Cambridge as an Assistant Project Manager.

Harvey remarked ‘Working for Carillion and R G Carter helped me gain valuable knowledge in all trades, whilst university helped me learn the technical details as well as planning and other essentials in management.’

After a year gaining more experience Harvey was eager to join GPL Construction again. Our company was looking to expand its Projects team, so we were very happy to welcome him on board in June 2018. He looks forward to getting to know and supporting our customers.

We are very pleased to be welcoming Sara Tomlinson who joined our team in May 2018. Sara worked in the food and beverage industry between 1984 and 2011 in supervisory and Management positions. In 2013 she joined Adrian Flux Insurance and worked for their Customer Service team.

Sara has joined our Administration Office at King’s Lynn and is looking forward to supporting the team and our clients.

GPL held it’s annual Health and Safety Seminar at it’s offices in King’s Lynn on Friday 26th September 2014. Relevant topics for discussion are decided by the GPL team then delivered by Colin Wright, Managing Director of Britannia Safety Training. Attending were GPL’s Managing director Peter Clift, fellow Director Claire Clift, Projects Director Adrian Tomlinson, Office Manager Sarah Thompson, GPL’s Site Engineers and Invited Sub-Contractors. The aim of the seminar is to bring everyone together who has involvement in H&S at work. This year the seminar addressed new H&S legislation, RIDDOR changes and new CDM Regulations. H&S targets for face mask wearing, Managing Asbestos, Working at Height Rescue Plans and New work related technology for mobile devises. Colin discussed changes to the National Accredited Scheme regarding cards and looked at Sub-Contractor Responsibilities. Peter Clift commented on how good it was to see all the delegates interacting, asking questions and so positive about Health and Safety on site.

Toby Lloyd has recently joined our team as a Trainee Draughtsman and Projects Coordinator. Toby has had six years’ experience in the industry as a Sub Contractor so has an in depth understanding of the materials we use and the techniques we adopt. His ‘on site’ experience means he will bring his practical knowledge to a project and is fully aware of Health and Safety requirements. He understands what clients are expecting on site and how important it is to work with them and alongside other trades.
Toby’s role is to support our Managers with all aspects of their projects. We welcome Toby on board!

JOB DESCRIPTION

We have a position available for a full time Draught’s man. The successful candidate will be working alongside a small team of Projects Managers, based at our office in King’s Lynn.

You will need to be an AutoCAD user and have a working knowledge of the building industry. Be proficient in other computer programmes such as Excel and Word. Experience of assembling quotations is an advantage.

It will be necessary on occasions for you to visit client sites.

Good communication skills are required to work alongside the GPL Team, their Clients and Suppliers.

The ideal candidate must be an ambitious and self-motivated individual. There will be opportunities for progression for the successful applicant. Development Training is available.

Salary is negotiable depending on experience.

It’s not only food construction projects that GPL Construction are asked to get involved with. We’ve recently finished a project at the Funky Fun House in King’s Lynn Norfolk. The project was to install Mineral Wool wall and ceiling panels to form fire rated partition walls between the Lazar Quest area and the main play area. Once we had installed our panels an outer boarding was installed and florescent painted applied to help create a fun environment for the children. GPL also formed various offices and stair wells with the panelling.

GPL Construction has been helping an apple grower to store its produce.

Due to expansion, the apple producer needed to store more fruit on site, and so GPL Construction designed and built a suite of three controlled-atmosphere stores using composite panels.

Not only does this mean that the produce can be stored for longer, it also means that the producer does not have to outsource the actual storage to a third-party.

Retaining freshness and quality is of paramount importance in the storage of fresh produce with consistent temperatures throughout the crop and minimising weight loss key considerations. Low velocity air flow and high humidity systems have, for a long time, been reliant on timber or structural plenum walls. More recently composite panels have been used in preference to timber as they offer a number of key advantages:
